The Directorate of International Affairs of Saint Petersburg State Medical Academy named after I. I. Mechnikov supports the academy's vision to create an internationally vibrant learning and research environment.

Under the leadership of the Vice Rector for International Affairs the following divisions operate.

Faculty of International Students

With about 600 international students studying at SPbSMA named after I. I. Mechnikov, the Faculty of International Students supports international students in achieving their academic and personal goals. It provides a variety of programs for international students as well as individual advising and activities to help them meet friends and settle into their life in Russia. International Office offers the Russian Language Course to help students strengthen their Russian skills so that they can pass their entrance university examinations or succeed in their university studies.

Department of Postgraduate Education

Many of our graduates are continuing their further and advanced training in different departments of SPbSMA named after I. I. Mechnikov. Department of Postgraduate Education is providing all the guidance and supports everyone who wishes to do their specialization in SPbSMA named after I. I. Mechnikov.

International Department

Head of International Department

Associate Professor Oleg D. Vasilyev

International Department provides strategic advice and regional expertise to faculties and departments interested in international collaboration. It assists in negotiation of all new agreements, and maintains the linkages the University has developed with partner institutions in 20 countries. The International Department also coordinates mission logistics for senior administration, receives official international visitors to the University and supports faculties in hosting international students. The International Department is also engaged in the recruitment of international students, attracting students from around the world to study at Saint Petersburg State Medical Academy named after I. I. Mechnikov. The department provides support to faculties and programs engaged in international student recruitment by investigating potential markets and coordinating the international marketing and recruitment strategy for the campus.

Group for realization of Grants

The Group for realization of grants connects campus-based faculty with international funding opportunities and helps to:

• provide technical support to researches of academy to identify international funding opportunities,
• build strategic alliances with international funding agencies and sponsors,
• provide background information on international sponsors,
• support the development of strong, competitive project proposals for education and research,
• assure consistency with the university's highest priorities, and establish and expand international research collaboration,
• host visiting researchers and lecturers.

Department of Visa and Passport Registration

Department of Visa and Passport Registration is in charge of preparing “visa invitation letter” for our future students. They also provide on time registration support to all the students of SPbSMA named after I. I. Mechnikov according to the rules and regulation of the Federal Migration Service of Russian Federation.
